On March 22, 2016 The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley held the groundbreaking for the first building to be constructed on the Brownsville campus since the creation of UTRGV. The Academic Building is a multipurpose facility that will house Environmental Science Labs, Chemistry Labs, Rehearsal Halls, Study Rooms and more. The 102,551 square foot building is scheduled to open in 2018.
